Took a rest day today after a good weekend of running and a couple steak sandwiches on Superbowl Sunday. Vin Lyon-Callo, the goalie on the great Masuk soccer team of 1981, sponsored 5 miles and said that he'd consider joining me for the last 5 miles. This is a serious commitment for a former goalie as one of the primary motivations for playing the position is limiting this activity (just kidding Vin and other goalies out there!) Also, in case there are any Masuk sports historians out there, the greatness of the `81 team was based more on the cast of characters on the team than our won-loss record.
Vin, you have miles 196-200, which I should reach in a little less than 3 weeks. That will be a fun run as I get to hit up my Dad for another contribution after reaching the 200 mile marker. Thanks for your support Vin and I'll look for you around mile 996.
Busy work day ahead tomorrow but I should be able to get at least 3 miles in.

Feb. 3 - 4.9 Miles Ran, 5 Miles Sponsored
Nice 4.9 mile run today. Many fine dogs in Colchester added their barks of encouragement along the way. If I get the nerve I may do a photo shoot of my canine friends during a run and post the pics here. I also had a running buddy for half of the run. Greg Ruel and I have been trying to catch up all weekend and since I had my cell phone for pics I figured what better time to return his latest call. I had just started a long hill when I called so fortunately Greg did most of the talking. Greg deserves a lot of credit; he has been a great friend to the Kowalski's with a lot of behind the scenes support.
I completed miles sponsored by my sister Beth McGuire (121-123), Eric Hopkins (124) and Joanne DeMace (125). I should also note that my sister did her third ever road race this morning in New Haven. Way to go Beth! Thanks to her, Hoppy and Joanne for sponsoring today's miles.
Sharon Christo MacEachern sponsored 5 miles today. Thanks Sharon! You have miles 191-195 which should be a little less than 3 weeks away.

Feb. 2 - 10.3 Miles Ran, 10 Miles Sponsored
There's still time for the sponsors, but at the moment I'm up by 0.3 miles today. I know there's one wiseguy/gal out there who will sponsor a mile and take my moment away. I ran my 8 mile loop and added a 2.3 mile extension around Day Pond. Nice day to run though the wind was coming at me that last 3 miles.
I realized that I neglected to highlight the sponsors of my run yesterday...sorry 'bout that Betsy Steiner (miles 107-109) and Kathy Lennon (110). I know Kathy will not let me off the hook for that slight, but fortunately I can state out front that Kathy also sponsored miles (111-118) of today's run. My sister Beth McGuire sponsored miles 119 and 120. Thanks Betsy, Kath and sis' for your support.
Matt Colegrove, a veteran of the great Masuk soccer team of 1982, sponsored 10 miles on behalf of his family today. Matt and I put a lot of mileage in on the Masuk soccer field back in the day (can I count any of those miles??) Matt has miles 181-190, which should be little less than 3 weeks away.
I started to think of Chase towards the end of my run today. I took it easy for most of the run given the increased mileage, but felt pretty good approaching the last mile. I decided to pick up the pace and set a time goal for the finish, and really thought of Chase rooting me on. We finished few seconds ahead of the goal, but the best part was looking at Chase's picture which we have in our kitchen--it's such a sweet, approving face--almost saying "I knew we could do it!". I've posted a copy of that picture below.

Feb. 1 - 3.2 Miles Ran, 6 Miles Sponsored
I was able to get out before dawn and squeeze in 3.2 miles. Though it was dark, it was a really nice run and ended with the sky lightening as I reached my driveway. I tacked on a extra 10th of a mile to avoid the ice patches from two days ago. I also arrived at my house just in time to say goodbye to Shea before she got on the bus (it comes at 6:25am, yikes!)
Tom Jones sponsored 2 more miles. Tom is the first repeat sponsor--thanks! Laura Engledrum Tutoli sponsored 4 miles and told me that her son attended preschool with Chase. Laura said that Chase was the sweetest little boy. Thanks for sharing that Laura, and good luck in your upcoming 5K.
Tom has miles 175 and 176 and Laura has miles 177-180. I should reach these miles around Feb. 20 and 21.

Jan. 31 - Unscheduled Day of Rest - Argghhh
Life got in the way today as I couldn't get out for a run early this morning and then I was stuck in a meeting all day (2 down, 1 to go). This was the first day this year that I just couldn't find a way out to the street when I really wanted to run. I guess it was for the best, though, as the 50-60 mile wind gusts wouldn't have been any fun.
On the sponsor side, a fellow named Ashish Modi emailed me and said he'd like to donate $100 (worth 10 miles) but he needed payment instructions. I'll put Ashish in the books for miles 160-169 and provide him with the link to the donation page. Ashish is friends with Len Gutman who sponsored 6 miles yesterday. Thanks Ashish, I really appreciate your support.
Right before I was going to sign off I saw that Karen Krajcik Myette has chimed in and sponsored 5 miles. Thanks Karen, nice to hear from you! You have miles 170-174, which are currently scheduled for around Feb. 20. I have it in my head that I'm going to run the Colchester Half Marathon on Feb. 23 so maybe I'll get to 174 sooner in prepping for the 23rd.
Last day of the all day meetings tomorrow. I am really going to try to get at least 3 miles in early tomorrow. Can't let work win the battle two days in a row!

Jan. 30 - 3.1 Miles Ran, 28 Miles Sposored
I was able to get out and run at 5:45am this morning. A long commute and all day meeting left no other option. I ran 3.1 miles around Day Pond near my house in Colchester. The run had one scary stretch through the woods where the ice hadn't melted. Fortunately, I navigated the icy patches and avoided any spills. These miles were sponsored by Gwen Brennan Kauffman (105 and 106) and Betsy Steiner (107). Thanks Gwen and Betsy--you are the sponsors of my first run in the dark!
The sponsors kicked it up a notch late yesterday and today--sponsoring more than a marathon's worth of miles.. The following people/families have joined the effort:
Celine Caliento Wicks, Miles 142-143;
Len Gutman, 144-149;
Heather Goode, 150-151;
Sara Steinert-Borella Family, 152-156;
Joanne Zuzick Garrett, sons 1-3, 157, 158 and 159 respectively and
Kevin Farkas, 201, 301, 401, 501, 601, 701, 801, 901-903.
Some of these sponsors are old friends and classmates, others are kind-hearted strangers. I appreciate this outburst of support and look forward to running these miles over the course of the next two weeks (and months for the Farkas miles).

Jan. 29 - 3.6 Miles Ran, 7 Miles Sponsored
After last week's weather, temps in the 30's felt absolutely balmy today. I actually ran in shorts and after a rough first mile it felt great. I ran the 3.6 mile Batterson Lake loop in Farmington. I felt very strong after a day off and two days after putting in some speed work (I know, it's all relative) at the 5-miler on Sunday. The run took me through miles 100 to 104. Gwen Brennan Kauffman sponsored these miles and she has a few more for me to cover. Thanks again Gwen. It will be a real challenge to run over the next three days due to all-day conferences each day. The only way for me to get miles in outdoors is to do a little running in the dark (with my reflective vest of course). We'll see have it goes.
In a very nice development I have connected with Lindsay Knauf and we have cross-linked our blogs. As a result of this, a follower of her blog, Tom Jones, linked to my blog and sponsored 2 miles and Lori Kessler sponsored an additional 5 miles as well. Thank you both for your generosity and support. Tom has miles 135 and 136 and Lori has miles 137-141. At the current rate I should reach these miles late next week.
I was also able to shake my Dad down and get confirmation on his first $100 donation. Time to press on to number 200!
