Aug. 8-9 - Rest Days; Aug 10 - 10 Miles Ran, 5-10 Miles Sponsored

I took Th and F off in my continued effort to calibrate the end of the 1,000 miles for Sept. 1, but wanted to test my fitness level with a medium-long run on Sat, so I put in a 10-miler.  I figured I'd be strong with all the rest recently, and I felt great for about 8 miles.  Once again a hill took out my legs and turned a 7:50 min/mi effort into an 8:05.  This tells me I need to dig down and really train for the New York Marathon, not just fine tune after the 1,000 miles are complete.  But it can and will be done!

I ran one lap around Day Pond and then the Cato Corner, Rt. 16 course.  I was a little hot, but breezy enough that it wasn't oppressive.  The family and I went to a beach party later in the day, and knowing that I needed to be functional after the run, I didn't press through the last two miles.  I was glad to get some decent miles in after all the recent rest.

I completed miles 893-902, sponsored by Len Gutman (893-900) and Kevin Farkas (901-902).  Thanks gentlemen, glad to hit the 900 mile marker with your miles!  Thanks for your support.

An old college friend touched base and sponsored 5 and, depending on my tolerance for humility, 10 miles.  Steve Kavanaugh is one of the funniest people I know, in addition to being a great guy, but his stubborn allegiance to all things Boston can be a bit trying at times.  Example: when his TV went on the blink in college he taped a picture of the Bobby Orr's flying 1970 Stanley Cup goal (see below) to the screen and left it that way for at least the next 5 of his undergraduate years.  Well, trusty ol's Budman (his college nickname) is at it again--he has offered to double his sponsorship of 5 miles if I run the miles in a Celtics jersey.  Being a Knick fan, I am not happy about this.  Of course Race4Chase trumps sports allegiances, so Bud is going to get his wish.  The only question is, do I go fine print and wear a Glasgow Celtic soccer jersey or do I honor the spirit of his request.  Tough call because Bud is the kind of guy who will tuck a photo of me in a Boston Celtics jersey away for 20 years and bring it out at the worst possible moment!

Despite the forthcoming humiliation, thanks go out to Bud for thinking of Chase and supporting the cause.  Maybe he'll spur some Knick fans to make things right!

This has got to be worth another mile, hey Bud?

Technically a "Celtics" jersey, I think it will hold up in court
