Feb. 18 - 3.2 Miles Ran, Lotsa Connections

Got out for a decent 3.2 mile run late this afternoon.  I was feeling a little sluggish going out, but for a good reason.  After my run yesterday, my daughter Shea (11) was waiting for me to play with her in the snow.  Twenty-five degrees, high winds, snow mostly turned to ice...but how could I say no???  Plus my wife Ellie starts singing "Cats in the Cradle" if I even think about taking the easy way out.

I completed miles 171-174, sponsored by Karen Krajcik Myette.  Thanks for supporting my effort Karen!

I heard from quite a few people today, maybe because an article about this endeavor was published in the Monroe Courier:

Thank you the Courier reporter Karen Dydzuhn who really captured the essence of this effort and the close-knit community that has gathered in support of the Kowalski's.

The following people offered their support today (or late yesterday):

Megan Ott:
Megan is friends with Lindsay Knauf (26in2013forsandyhook.blogspot.com).  Megan made t-shirts that Lindsay wears during her races, one for each child and student lost in the tragedy.  Megan asked to sponsor two miles on particular dates (2/27 for her son Brady, and 7/5 for her daughter Kennedy).  This may complicate the accounting of miles a little, but here the customer is always right.  I will assign Megan's miles when I reach the two dates, and if all the miles for those dates have been previously sponsored (likely for the 2/27 miles), we'll just double up.  Megan, thanks for your support!

Shelby Siems:
Shelby sent an email to let me know that her son Christopher, age 9, was one of 21 children who performed a song in honor of the Newtown families.  Her son was picked to represent Chase, and he made a sign depicting Chase's interests.  Shelby believes Steve and Becky now have Christopher's sign.  Shelbly said you  can find the song on Youtube via the "26 angels" Facebook page.  She also blogged about Christopher's experience in her Dec. 26, 2012 post at www.singlemadmom.blogspot.com

Jim McDonald:
I next heard from my old friend Jim (Masuk `81).  With three boys in each family all the same age, the McDonalds and Bresnahans spent a lot of time together in our youth.  Jim was a really good soccer player and track athlete at Masuk, a senior when I was a sophomore.  It was great playing soccer and running with him back in the day.  Jim has agreed to join the Race4Chase team in Hartford on March 23--it will be great catching up with him (only figuratively if the race is anything like our high school track days).  Thanks for joining the cause, Jim!

Jeff Bates:
Lastly, Jeff (Masuk `82) chimed in on Facebook and said that he's like to sponsor some miles.  I directed him to the blog site--hopefully the instructions are clear enough but if not I'll talk him through (I offer a full-service blog).  Thanks for getting in touch and supporting the effort, Jeff!

Lastly thank you to everyone who has commented about and/or "liked" all things Chase on Facebook...we are all better off if we keep his spirit close everyday.
