Feb. 27 - Happy Birthday Brady and Thank You (Again) Rocky Heights!

Another crazy day in the quest for 1,000 miles.  The following factors screamed Rest Day: a crammed full day of work; pouring rain and the need to be home by 6 (Wed is Ellie's school night).  But lurking in the sponsored miles was Brady Ott who turned 4 today.  A little over a week ago, Brady's Mom Megan sponsored two miles and asked that they be run on 2/27, Brady's birthday, and 7/5, daughter Kennedy's birthday.  I couldn't get out during the day, so, upon Ellie's return from school around 9pm, I laced up the shoes for a foggy 1-mile run to the end of the road and back.  Fortunately no cars, dogs or angry neighbors were out and about.  I have to admit that in a moment of weakness prior to the run I started thinking of excuses, but then I imagined Chase saying, "you're gonna run 1,000 miles, but miss the 4-year old sponsor's mile?  Nice."

I completed mile 210 during the run, which Brady shared with an anonymous donor.  Thanks again to this donor, a sponsor of 10 miles total.

Also, more great news from our friends at Rocky Heights Middle School in Colorado.  Celine Caliento-Wicks sent an email yesterday stating that people connected with the school have sponsored 3 more miles.  The Buras family sponsored 2 miles on behalf of their 7th grader Jacob, and three students, Anonymous, Megan G., Michaela F., sponsored 1 mile.  Thanks again to this great group out West.

  1. Wow, Kev, just wow! Kudos for lacing up at 9 pm on the foggy and cold, dark roads of rural CT tonight for Brady! You are both my heroes!! Happy Birthday to 4-year-old Brady! I love your thought of Chase pushing you to get out there for him and have to say that effort of 4 you gave yourself should go to 11. Love wins!

  2. And there's no coincidence that Rocky Heights is named the school it is. Rocky Heights ROCKS! Thank you for keeping that amazing brother of mine running!
